This. I hacked up a BP-01 (I think was the designation) to be super low, and centered over the bore. It was pretty decent, but you had to take it off to take off the cover, which kinda sucked.

The Ultimak isn't bad either, but it wasn't my favorite. An Aimpoint would probably be the way to roll with those, an EoTech is still pretty high.

No shit? You ever get any time with one? I liked the idea, myself......

They were having reliability issues with the optic as well as issues with the design. The first gens definitely aren't as sturdy as the ultimak/micro combo. I hope the new design is a little beefier with the ability to use more than one brand of micro-dot.

The hotness now is a micro on the ultimak and it sits low enough you don't have to be a giraffe to use. The Irondot was/is good idea, I think they just have some issues they need to work out. The AK in general isn't great for optics, the side rails are sturdy, they just sit a little too high for most optics. There are some interesting designs that should be coming out in early 2010 from Russia as they attempt to keep the AK up to date. Who knows if they will be worthwhile or not.

Got Damn I want one of those. Where did you acquire? I emailed a guy months back who normally stocks them, but he wasn't sure when he'd ever get anymore in. :wtc:

A few guys on the AK Forum use those. It puts the optic up a little high but they work as long as the screws are tight. You can take off the receiver cover but you have to remove the mount to remove the gas tube.
