I've got a laptop that won't boot into windows but I can get into the repair console by using the windows xp cd. The laptop has a cd-writer and that's it, tried to plug in a usb key to copy files onto but that didn't work. Is there any program that I can install through the repair console which I can use to burn my data onto a cd? Thanks.

    Try booting to recovery console

    chkdsk -r

Let it run for a while. Whats wrong with your system that it wont boot?

Fixed. Apparently it was a video driver that caused the issue. The laptop wouldn't boot and would display a message saying that some vital system files were missing. It fixed itself in the end while I was trying to apply a registry fix as Microsoft advised for that particular error.
