I had my itunes library on an external USB HDD... and lucky me, the HDD died.

I need to restore from my ipod to a new drive.

I've looked at all sorts of software, but they all look crappy. I tried two. Floola only restored about 40% of the songs, and gave me read errors on the balance. I tried iPod access for Windows, and it restore all the songs but rewrote the song names with a series of letters (i.e. AJSK, SJFJ, KJFE, KFJK, ETC ETC). Obviously 12000+ songs, will take a lifetime to rename if not impossible.

Any thoughts or suggestions on a software suite?

    sharepod works awesome for me

people have suggested just opening up the ipod in explorer and copying the songs over. they will have odd filenames, but still retain the ID3 tag info, so they will look fine in itunes

That's what I'm nervous about. A lot of the songs I imported with iPod Access for Windows were renamed to the file names.

    Trying ephpod right now...

However.. I've noticed that its AAC songs that aren't keeping the ID info when copying off the ipod.

    Suggestions?

I had the same issue with iPod Access. Right now I'm trying to restore just my playlists from my iPod. I still have all the music (the main drive took a dive and the backup I had was older then the playlists that I created, the MP3s are on a different drive). I'm doing it on my Mac. My company does make a program (that is sold under another companies name) that will allow you to pull those songs off it (Mac software). In addition to that we have a freeware program that will rename MP3s based on their ID3 tags.
