What would you guys recommend as a good wireless router? I'd prefer N wireless as that is what is in my laptop, but that's not absolutely critical since G is fast enough for my 22Mbit internet connection anyway.

I currently have a Linksys WRT160N which is the biggest piece of crap I've even had since it seems to flake out and overheat on a regular basis.

i have that with ddwrt, worked great. i had to manually power cycle it twice last year. it was weird, couldn't ping the router, but it would hand out a dhcp address. could get online, but couldn't ping anything on my network or connect to my server with RDP

i have a WRT54G-TM, the t-mobile edition with more memory. i have ddwrt mega on it. works great so far.

thinking of putting tomato on the old router. not too sure of major advantages

hehe, yeah, i was wondering if that was still the king of routers or if something else good was out there. i guess i'm staying away from N a little longer. :)

i have a WRT160N which looks like it has the same case as the WRT54G2 and it is a horrible design. it is a very flat plastic case with almost no vent holes except on the bottom and then it has really small feet, so it isn't even like you can get any air flow under there. i think that's why it overheats so much. i've considered just drilling holes into the top to let some of the hot air out, but have been too lazy.

    Hot air?

Mine's in a drawer with zero airflow, has been for months. Never had a problem.

you have one of the newer shiny black spaceship looking design or the old one with the blue plastic? maybe the WRT54G internals are better than those of the 160N because there were times i actually had to blow into the vents on the bottom because even power cycling didn't help revive it. other times i'd have to unplug it and leave it off for a while.
