So, I have a computer at home that I'm considering buying Vista for. It has an Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (2.2Ghz) proc, 1Gb of memory and an ATI video card which I believe is an X1650 256Mb (can't remember the exact chipset offhand). I figure I'll go to at least 2Gb of memory and I plan on buying a new hard drive if I do this.

I know Microsoft says this meets the minimum requirements to run the Aero stuff, but is it really or is it going to run like shit?

you can turn off aero. i turn off all the stupid animations and eye candy, even though i have a decent machine. i don't like that stuff anyway. i just keep the aero interface.

more ram is recommended. doubt you'll need another hdd or faster one since you may not notice a difference. unless your current one is near capacity.

vista should run fine. not sure about the latest games or video editting.

i don't play any games on my PC anymore and the reason i wanted to swap hard drives is so i could leave my current one untouched just in case. :)
