So what are the best Tamron/Sigma etc Lenses.... I remember there was a thread about this, but I can't find it.

I'm looking for wide, mid range and possibly telephoto, could be zoom.
Looking for quality optics, but on a budget and MIN f2.8

    Nikon mount

the 17-50 2.8 is nice. the 28-75 is nice too. but kinda a useless focal range ona crop camera.

What's the best / sharpest variation of the 17-50 variants, or something in that range.

meh... I wouldn't say useless. Depends on what you shoot. it's served me well for portraits and weddings. I would like either a 10-20, or a 17-50 to go along with it just in case I need the extra wide angle, but I've been able to make due.

agreed. something wide is definitely necessary to have. i ended up selling my 28-75. buying a 17-40L and a 70-200. those 2 almost everything. and i just bought a 28-70L last week cause i was shooting the idea of buying the tamron again. but i got a great deal, so ended up getting it.
