Name some bands that I'll like if I like 311, Tool, The Mars Volta, Refused, and Modest Mouse to name a few. I'm looking for more music like this (i.e. not crappy).

How can I recommend not crappy music when what you have listed that you like is in fact crappy?

    cursive - domestica
    cave in - jupiter
    engine down - demure
    jawbreaker - dear you
piebald - if it werent for venetian blinds, it would be curtains for us all

But you listed a wide variety of bands, so dont hold me to these. I mean there's an infinite gap between 311/tool and modest mouse. and "crappy" isnt a very good description of what you dont like.

Exactly what I was thinking.. Modest Mouse does not really "fit" with the rest, so I do not know what to or not to recommend.

(Pinback) their new album is awesome, but so is all their old stuff too
(Enon) I didn't care for their newer album hocus pocus, but their old stuff rocks
(Spoon) just awesome indie rock, fav album "girls can tell"
(Starlight Mints) very creative band, "built on squares" is their better album
(Metric) good high energy indie rock with great female vocalist

    some of my favorites...

I think he'd like "Antenna" a lot better than "Jupiter". Just my opinion.
