So I got these gift certificates for this department store I need to use that expires tomorrow... thinking about picking up a pair of running shoes and a pair for lifting. I'm pretty set on the new New Balance 8505's for running since I've had pretty good luck w/ NB.. quite comfy and durable. Kind of confused as to what to get for weight lifting though... I've read that it's better to get shoes w/ minimum cushioning.. have seen people recommend the Converse Chuck Taylor's (too ugly for my taste), Nike Free's 5.0/7.0, or even the Air Force One's... I'm guessing any type of "casual" shoes would work pretty well since they're all usually pretty stiff w/ not a lot of cushioning... The brands available at the store are Nike, New Balance, Adidas, Mizuno?, Aciscs?, Reebok, and Puma.. Any input/advice would be appreciated.... :)

I lift exclusively in an old pair of asics wrestling shoes. Never had anything that came close for squatting/ DL's. Otherwise, I'm partial to nike shoes for other outdoor activity, I don't know if thye make the 'pegasus' shoes anymore, but they were the most comfortable athletic shoe ive ever owned.

    nope, just deadlifts/squats...

please don't turn this into a flame thread...

I actually don't even do curls... pretty new to lifting... been mainly cutting till couple months ago.. been a fat ass all my life (5'6 220lbs) at my peak... got down to 140 ... all I'm doing right now is compound lifts, 3-4 times a week (deadlift, squat, pullup, bench, etc) w/ some cardio on my days off.....

I wouldn't mind wearing them just at the gym.. but walking to/back in em...meh.. heh... I carry enough stuff w/ me there and back as is, so bringing an extra pair of shoes to switch isn't really an option....

I have two pairs of sneakers, I use them both for recreation and gym. Just buy what feels comfortable for you.
