I've got a 750gb Seagate ATA100 drive just sitting around. My current external, at 300gb, isn't enough anymore and I'll need the extra space. I would normally just throw a rig together for a file server, but I need an external so I'll have it with me when I'm in London this fall.

So...what external enclosures do you all recommend?

Edit: If it could hold 2 drives, both ATA, I'd love it even more.

First I want to show you my breadcrum trail:
Wow, I started at newegg.com. Went to the External Enclosures section. I knew Kingwin made it, so there I went. Then I knew it was made of aluminum, so bam. And OH SHIT! THERE IT IS!!!

you said you'd "love it even more" not that it was a requirement.

Learn the fucking english language first, you dumb twit.

btw, a dual enclosure (besides having a worse cost ratio compared with two single enclosures, is simply going to use a series firewire or usb hub configuration with two bridges. Might was well get two single enclosures.

See that's useful info, you could have just that up front and avoided the whole tit-for-tat bullshit we did. I didn't know that so now I know it's better to just do two.

Edit: Well that enclosure you recommended doesn't help me anyways. It doesn't support anything over 350gb.

I'm just going off what Newegg had listed, and it said a max of 350gb. How the fuck was I supposed to know that's wrong?

    I've got one of these
    http://www.cooldrives.com/dusahadrfi80.html

Didn't pay that much though. That site has a number of dual drive enclosures ranging from eSATA to USB2 to Firewire with prices ranging from about $70 to $150ish I think.

I don't sackride Antec at all.

In my new build, I used the NSK6500. I knew from pics that it was just like the
3700/3800 cases which were built like tanks.
    This thing disappoints.
The drive cage, which is why I bought it is awesome.
But where the older cases were so solid, the back of this thing flexes when you attach
    the motherboard.
Believe me, I'm not pleased by that and I'll be giving Antec a slam at Newegg where I bought the case.

As far as the MX-1 goes, I didn't even know they made a drive enclosure.
I was doing some basic homework on the issue, googling everything I could find,
and I just came across it.
The Thermaltake that I wanted isn't due out for another month or two (per Thermaltake customer service),
    and I needed one now.
So I read a couple of reviews on it, and everybody was very impressed by it.

One cheap case isn't going to keep me from buying from them. But I'll be more careful when I buy the next one.

But the MX-1 is very much innovative in how it routes the air through a channel that wraps around the hard drive and cools the entire drive. Very clever.

he hates everything that's popular, i'm pretty sure of it.

Antec isn't anything special IMO, but they usually make pretty decent stuff.

Intel is popular. I like them. Microsoft is popular. I like them. Linux is popular in a different way. I like it. etc. etc.

Antec does 1 of 3 things:

    a) Let someone else build a product. We will buy it, throw our sticker on it, and resell it for 3x the price.

    b) Let someone else design a product. We will mimick it in form but we will use cheap components, leave out critical design elements that arn't absolutely neccessary for power-on and basic operation, and then sell it at 3x the price.

    c) Innovate a product that has marketable qualities, but use a piss-poor design coupled with inadequate materials. Sell for too much money.

The only Antec products I really have cared for in the past several years is the TruePower (original and 2.0) 380W PSU, and the Antec Sonata (which coincidentally included the TP 380W PSU).

A wonderful example is their shittastic True Power 550W. Holy shit that thing is rediculously horrible.
