I'm planning on upgrading from my 9800 Pro pretty soon, and I want to get a card that is going to have some longevity. If I'm going to drop the money I don't want to have to upgrade in two years because its horribly outdated. The only guideline is that it needs to be AGP, other than that I'm open to anything.

Well I know that Nvidia is supposed to be putting out their new card next week. So I was going to base my decision around how much prices dropped on others. If I had to choose a price range I'd say not much more than $300.

I've been looking at the 6800GT, X800XL and X800XT. I heard there wasn't that much of a difference between the 6800GT and Ultra though, any truth to that?

not much truth. The ultra is insane.

ATi's cards can't even compare. All lame. I'd rather have a 6800GT over anything ATi.

Is a 6800GT going to be a viable card for the next few years, or will I be shooting myself in the foot? Does it really matter what company I go with? I was looking at the EVGA model for $319.

    I have a 6800 Ultra SLI.

It is well worth the 500 bucks you spend because that baby can handle ANYTHING on the highest setting without even flickering.

Last I checked a single ULTRA is nearly as good as 2 gt's in SLI.

But the Ultra is considerably more expensive than a single gt.

How much do you think the Ultra is going to drop once the new cards come out?

I doubt it will drop very much. The prices on them have been pretty consistent since October or so. I bought an eVGA Ultra for 480 from Newegg back in March. Since mid May the prices shot up to 520 and have stayed since. Go figure.

I'm probably gonna end up going with the 6800GT instead then, I can't live with myself dropping almost $500 on a graphics card.

go for a 6800 ultra, if you sell your 9800 you can definatley get it, or if your budget is high, wait a month and geta 7800
