I'm going to build a new system. I will be getting an E8400 processor and a 8800GT video card. Not sure what brand yet.

With the card being a PCI express 2.0 I want a board that will support it. Can't find one with a P35 chipset so if I am correct I will need something with a X38 or maybe a nForce 750i board.

Here's the one I found with the nForce chipset...

So I guess I need to know what you think. Will the one I linked to be a good board or will I be better served going with one that has the X38 chipset ???

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

    the 750i is a 650i plus NF200 (switch for 3-way SLI).
    same with the 780i. it's a 680i plus NF200.
    that is the only diff.

if you don't care about SLI, a P35 would still be better all around.

go with the X38. the only problem with that is that the X48 will be out soon.

Right now I don't care to much about the SLI but I'm looking down the road for upgradeability. My thinking is I could use that as an upgrade later instead of a whole new system.

Also am I wrong in thinking that card will perform better on a board that is 2.0 capabile vs one that isn't ???

The current generation of video cards don't even require the maximum bandwidth available from PCI-e 1.0. 1.0 vs 2.0 doesn't make a difference right now.

by the time you care,... there will be a next gen card that will beat two 8800GTs for a cheaper price. it' not worth it man.

That is actually the P35 board I was originally looking at. Just built a system for someone at work using it with a 6750 processor and we were pretty impressed with how well it turned out.

Ya that's another thing I have thought about. Gotta love how fast this shit changes. It would be nice to be able to build a nice system that isn't so outdated in a year that it's not worth upgrading.

I run that Gigabyte...the C version w/ DDR3. It works great with my Q6600. I haven't really pushed the clock and I've been just dealing w/ Vista stability issues w/ my old school x850XT (I'm a developer, not a gamer). The card will go w/ a 2nd 22" flat panel soon.

The ATA port is too low...I had to move my DVD drives to the bottom of my case.
