I am looking for a small 9mm that is accurate and not too heavy, and in the cheap price range of around 200-300 used if necessary... Something like a beretta M1934...

Life is too short for crappy guns. Especially if it's your first or only gun.

Spend some money and avoid cheap, shitty guns. There are few things in the world more frustrating than a gun that won't run like it's supposed to.

A Glock 19 is about as close to an every day, every way gun as is currently made. The Glock 17 will give you a little larger 9mm if you don’t plan to carry it concealed. I carried a 17 concealed for years without any problems but a 19 is definitely more suited to that role. Someone will be along shortly to recommend an XD but in my opinion while they are decent guns they offer no significant advantages over a Glock (they are slightly cheaper) and do have some liabilities that Glocks do not have.

    Argy? That's an interesting idea.

I don't think much of the little Beretta Cougar. The one I tried just wouldn't friggin work. It belonged to a friend who later sold it and bought a G26.

I bought a .45 Rock Island 1911 from a place called "The Dealer Warehouse" last year for $325. Shoots great! Also you might want to try looking in the Southern Ohio Guns, CDNN, KY Imports catalog's. They have lots of used Sig's, Beretta's, S&W's, and Glocks that would be right around your price range. I bought a Glock m19 for my father in law last year from KY for $325. If you want something really cheap, some of them sell some of those .380 cal eastern European military surplus guns (Makoravs, Tokarevs, CZ 83's) if thats what your into.

Only liability an XD has vs. a Glock is the finish. If you don't maintain it, it may rust but then again, that goes for just about any other gun you find. Glock's finish is the best in the business so you can't compare it to anything else in that category. Not counting the finish, side by side the Glock and XD are equal. The only differences are in price, ergonomics and the XD has a grip safety.

If you want a really small and light 9mm to carry, KelTec's P11 is good. It's not all flashy but it's very light and goes bang when you pull the trigger. A compact Glock or the Sub XD are both good choices for carry too.

Just remember if you go with a weapon that's not popular, you also will find a harder time finding accessories/parts for it. Glock and XD are at the top for finding Holsters/Lights/Upgrades but a Firestar/Firestorm is going to be a problem just finding a really good holster that fits it properly.

The glocks are good and can handle just about anything that you can throw at it. I prefer sigs myself, I shoot a little better with them for some reason, but I think that these will be out of your price range. The best thing that you can do is go to your local range and try out as many different guns as you can. Pick the one you like the best. No one else can tell you what you like. I would also suggest that you not cheap out, put in the extra money and get the best condtition weapon as you can. You wont regret it later.
