I've been looking at older models such as the Sony DSC-F828 (Which I'm leaning towards), and the Minolta DiMAGE A1. I'm just looking for something with more than 5 MP, has a focus ring on the lens (which can be fixed or not), and has sort of the same body style as the DSC-F828 and A1.

I shoot a Minolta Z3 right now and I figure its time to upgrade, but not to dSLR yet. Plus those cameras would be cheaper new.

I loved the A1, they also make an A2 and then an a200 I think. I would grab that over a 828 any day. The pro1 with firmware update was pretty good, and the new G7 is sweet.

Canon Rebel XT w/ dell discount coupon + rebate...I got mine for $500. :) I recommend going to the store and playing with the cameras. Some people like Nikons, others like me prefer Canon...up to you :)

If you want "SLR type" but not actually SLR, go for the Sony R1. Looks pretty sweet. :)
