looking for something with 1.2-1.8 range of max aperture. for canon EOS DSLR series. i currently have the EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens. i'm liking it for well lit situations but its not fast enough for me in low light/no light.

max price, ~$400. preferably a new lens. (i have this complex about buying used electronics, optics, firearms, or car parts.)

    Sigma 30mm f/1.4.
Sharp, and fast as hell. Also, the crop factor on 1.6x body will give you a nice standard lens, and with such short focal length, you won't ned that high of a shutter to get rid of the shakes.
    30mm + f/1.4 + ISO800 = win

    Normal lens + f8+ + is0 100 + tripod = win :squint:

    Depends on the situation.
For me, at night, tripod would be impossible most of the time.

    I have 85L 1.2 ... It's a nice fast lens. Fairly sharp too.

Been looking at a 35L 1.4 but it would be a specialty lens for me, and I need to get a 135 f/2

i've very interested in knowing how those water drops were shot with the color and lighting.

and you should get the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8
