...for my dad. I am not familiar at all with the whole capture card scene, so any help would be appreciated.

Basically, he wants to create digital copies of home movies that are on VHS currently, with the ability to perhaps burn the digital copies to a DVD at a later date (computer already has DVD burner). A tv tuner is a plus, but not necessary. Also, he would prefer it to be external (USB), but again this is not absolutely necessary. Price should be fairly cheap, he's not looking for studio quality video or anything.

One more thing...he's running Vista, so it has to be Vista compliant. Computer is fairly new and has a gig of ram with a dual core processor (not sure of the brand/clock speed however):o

    Thanks in advance!

Analog tv tuner connected to VCR with coax seems like it would work. Just tune the channel on the tuner to the vcr and set record and push play on the vcr.

i would step it up to composite inputs. although, if you had a vcr that had s-video out (not sure if they even made that) you'd get an even crisper picture
i have an ati all in wonder 9600 128mb, it's an agp card with a breakout box that allows you to plug in svideo or composite video, also has a cable tuner on the card.

I have a Voodoo 3 3500 TV card laying around :big grin::big grin:

I'm not sure of any with a TV tuner, but I have a Dazzle 80 USB device that I've used a few times to convert some VHS tapes.
