I am going to Africa in September for a safari. I want to get a nice camera with a sick lens and filter so I can get shots that will really capture what i'm gonna see.

    Camera:
    good picture quality
fast shutter speed for action shots of lions taking down zebras and whatnot
ability to take crisp night shots
panoramic capabilities (if possible. i might need a lens for this)

    Lens:
i dont know what to look for here

    Filter:
capture the vibrant colors, maybe even enhance them
    polarized?

I am a photography noob but photography does interest me, so help out as much as you can. i was planning on getting a nice camera from costco so i can return it when i get back from the trip - but if i get a nice enough camera i might keep it. i do travel a lot so i am willing to pay a bit more for a nice camera i can use down the road.

ive seen some pictures/style of photography in the forum that i really like and want to replicate. i will post some of the pictures below.

    Safari = pics of animals?

    Get a Rebel XT/XTi + 70-200 f/4 for the lowest cost.

haha sorry moral police. maybe if i were christian or gave a damn about authority i would care a lot more about committing "fraud". sorry im not acceptable to your standards.

on the topic at hand, i remember the person with the vibrant color pictures saying he had some polar filter that achieved the color brilliance.

    fine, you have a point

at any rate, if I were you, I would probably go olympus, they are known for their high speed animal photography. You are going to want a lens that is known as "fast" so you can pick up the animals movements even at a distance. Look for a zoom lens with a high "f stop number", nothing lower than f/5 or so, remember the higher that number, the "faster" that lens is, and it will be more useful to you.

i dont know if olympus is available at costo, but you can always return shit you bought online too

    try sites like

    www.USAPhotoNation.com
    and
    www.lowpricedigital.com

they usually offer the best deals and service.

stay away from sites like bhphotovideo.com, they are known to be scammers

    good luck I guess
