I plan on buying a 1911, I will most likely carry this gun on me. Which brand do you recommend? I can spend around a grand. Thank you.

Everybody does not like Kimber :o A Springfield loaded model is a good choice, they run around $650 give or take a few bucks. I've used one as my daily carry gun for two years now and have never had any problems from it with around 3k rounds through it now.

Springfield loaded is a great choice. But if you have a range that has several models for rent try firing as many as you can to make your decision.

I love my Kimber, but would be equally happy with a Springfield Loaded model.

Am I the only one who thinks it's blasphemous to buy a 1911 that was made in Brazil (Springfields)? For other guns, fine... but not a 1911. John Browning was an American and it just doesn't seem right to buy a 1911 made any place else.

Only the frame is made in Brazil, and it's made by Imbel which is not some shoddy second rate manufacturer, assembly is done in the US. Also, not all Springfield frames are made in Brazil. You have Colt, Kimber, and S&W that are made in the US, excluding the custom and semi-custom makers. S&W aren't true 1911's due to the external extractors, same deal with series II Kimbers, that leaves Colt being the only true 1911 maker (and that could be argued that series 80 guns aren't true 1911's.) I have absolutely no problem getting a gun that is every bit as good as a Colt for hundreds of dollars less, and the tiny lettering on the bottom of the dustcover that says Imbel, Brazil doesn't bother me either.

I second that even though I have never carried mine. An excellent gun none the less and a lightly used one can be had for about a grand.

I really like the Springfields. They have been recommended by the guy that taught the hunter safety course, also by opthers. But i have only shot a Colt 1911. And I love it, but its having some jamming problems right now.

I dont get all the hype behind 1911s. I'll have to go rent one or something to see why everyone wants one.
