see title...the one I had, a pioneer dvr-111d finally gave out (in less than 2 yrs :ugh:). I was wondering if I should stick with pioneer or just go for another brand.

any recommendations?? and thanks in advance. :wavey:

I had a dvr-112d and it only lasted 6 mos.
I currently have a Lite-on and a Sony NEC Optiarc,.. both are ok,.. a bit noisy, but not really that bad.
The Samsung drives seems popular at newegg.

well,.. like all dvd burners, it either works or it doesn't.
pretty obvious in the reviews, some have no problems, some can't get it to work. same thing with other brands.

imo, lite-on has the best tech support (e.g. firmware upgrades).

They are all pretty cheap (as in price), so it's not that big of an investment. Just buy one and if it fucks up, replace it.

the best ones has always been NEC (not Sony/NEC Optiarc) and Plextor.
NEC is hard to find since the Sony/NEC merger, Plextor is expensive.

The Lite-On SATA burner has been on sale at newegg for a while. Not sure if it still is.

it's a fact that optical drives break often so it also happens with the best of them.
a year and half is actually good compared to a 6-8 month lifespan of some Lite-Ons, LGs, etc.

:ugh: Samsung drives fucking suck. don't do it.

In optical drives, plextor is generally high-end, and lite-on/sony/nec are generally good regular drives.

I wouldn't mess with much else.

I got a Samsung drive once. They were first to the market with an affordable 18x burner. I ordered it thinking it would at least be as fast as my 16x NEC. I was wrong. Read speeds were slower, write speeds were slower, overall it seemed sluggish. It took longer to burn, although the max speed was higher, it didn't write consistently. And decrypting video took at least 25% longer. I'd never buy another Samsung and regretting buying the one I had. Writemaster my ass.

:ugh: They are 30 bucks. DVD burners have become disposable. And yet again, you fucking fail on explaining why they suck. You build a computer the way you want to, and I will build a computer they way I want to, dick.

:hsughno: The 2 I have in my machine work fine, and rip speeds are good.

Started using LG drives a few years ago - haven't had a problem yet. Having said that, I'm sure they're not high on people's list.

The drive I had was fine as well, didn't spit out coasters, but it was slow.

no wonder...my friend had a Sony NEC drive, it was one shitty drive (spit out nothing but coasters, but then again, maybe it was just his drive :dunno:)...the main reason why I always stay away from Sony and NEC. I might give it a try since I see recommendations for it (not the sony ;)).

and thanks again for the replies and suggestions.

They fucking suck because they're pieces of shit. You are a fucking retard because your daddy touched you when you were young. That enough reason, for you?

You can build a machine any way that you want. In fact, I like that you're such a faggot because your shitty pc components make me laugh. :mamoru:

If the drives are only $30, why not buy one that will work the best? I see no reason to get your panties in a wad to defend a mediocre product simply because it's more expansive than another product that would be better quality. The Lite-On drive I suggested was on sale at newegg at the time of this post and was cheaper than the Samsung. So if price is what you were most concerned about and you didn't care about quality, you still would have won.
