And no, I don't want a snub-nose purse sized gun (but I also don't want something that'll make me look like a poser).

I'm mainly looking for something for the Range, nothing exotic, but something that's relatively accurate. My secondary use would be Home Defense...

I'm also looking for something that isn't TOO expensive. Is <$500 reasonable (I don't know..?)

Lastly, what kind of costs (and also formalities, etc) should I expect before buying my first (Hand)gun. (I've already read through CA's Gun Laws on the NRA's Website )

As big as my.... :naughty: Wait, wrong forum.

Rather large, considering I'm 6'2" and pretty much everything is proportional I guess. If you guys can post up ballpark prices along with your suggestions, that'd be AWESOME. :x:

try some out, go rent a few.. cant go wrong with many of the major brands, just what feels right..

    CZ
    Glock
    Springfield
    Para
    Kimber
    HK
    Sig
    any decent hipower variant

lots of good choices, read some review, feel some in your hands, etc. Do you want single action only, cocked and locked, or a DA/SA, or DA only.

Any Glock in 9mm would make a fine first handgun. Take as much training as possible. Guns are NOT forgiving of negligent handling or misuse.

Awesome Catalog... now are you suggesting I order from CDNN (can you even mail-order hand-guns?) or just go to my local gun shop?

They have good prices you can order, but it must be shipped to a FFL (licensed gun dealer basically) so they can do the background paperwork and there is usually a fee involves in that.
I would just find what you want and shop around.

Online you will have FFL + shipping added on to the price to take into account for.

Yeah that's what I gathered from GunBroker.com... they had a pretty informative Buyer's FAQ that I read...

Most of the FFL's around me charge ~$70...

There's a pretty decent Gunshop not too far from me, so I'm probably gonna go there and check things out... I'll be posting pix if I get one soonish...

Whats the waiting period for CA?

Haha oh so sharp and witty...

You know a 1911 wouldnt be bad. They're a little more expensive and a .45 but they're great guns.

Include the XD in that search before purchasing, they are very similar, about the same performance and they have different grips/grip angles, one may be MUCH more comfortable and as a result, more confidence inspiring :)

FWIW i fired glock, and XD... went with the XD-9 no regrets

Did you check w/ the Pawn shops? A friend had a transfer done here through a pawn shop and they only charged $15. $70 sounds like a LOT.

Thats kind of vague, dont you think..

are we talking about el cheapos like llamas and charles daly, or are we talking about good 1911's like kimbers, para, les baer, wilson, etc.
