Ok. So, TigreTek and I are starting Berardi's Metabolism Advantage plan, the one that is in Men's health.......

Maybe some people in here remember we did the whole South Beach diet thing and lost a lot of weight, but we fell off the wagon and gained a good bit back since we didn't have to much exercise involved (we both did cardio 3-4 times a week till work schedules busted that up). So now, were taking a more whole approach with weight lifting, interval training, good supplimentation and more well rounded - easier to deal with- foods.

I read the book, have memorized what i have to do for our cooking and foods, did the groceries and all that. Bought my Suppliments: Greens+, Creatine, Whey protien, vitamins......
the one thing i couldn't really find that he suggested was "Surge" by the brand Biotest. i was shopping at nutrition s'mart and i couldn't find it. I asked the guys working there and they pointed me towards "muscle milk" and "cytosport". can anyone suggest a good recovery drink that won't taste like ass and be effective?

Also i need to be a little bit more cost effective... i'm finding that all this stuff can be quite expensive. Help a sister out her while she trains to be a badass.

Honestly, don't buy into all that GNC crap. They will try to sell you half the store if you let them. For post workout recovery the best thing is simply protien. A whey protein shake will do wonderfully, and if you want to go the extra mile you can dose with BCAA's and Glutamine.

When weight lifting the best thing you can do for solid recovery is a good diet, staying hydrated, getting ENOUGH sleep, and getting in some protein after your workout.

Anything else is just icing on the cake that many people consider not worth the money. The two I mentioned (BCAA's and Glutamine) are the next in line for being in contention for "worth it".

Also, cytosport, muscle milk, surge, green bulge, etc... Cause you to pay more for the name/brand association. If you really like the taste of that stuff it might be worth it, but other stuff is cheaper is often better.
Muscle milk is calorie dense and kinda expensive. I would stick with straight whey protein (I like Optimum Nutrition).

thank you. I was also thinking to just maybe mix up our own little shakes with the whey protien i bought. The guy at the store said glutamine was the way to go but I figured to do a bit more research before i paid another 20+ bucks on a jar of stuff...

Glutamine is kinda rough in the sense that some people swear by it and others don't notice a thing.

If you don't mind spending the extra $20 it might be worth it... it lasts quite a while.
But you've got the right idea. The best and cheapest way to go about it is to make your own shakes. A scoop or two of protein, a scoop of BCAA's, a scoop of glutamine, etc... Just mix it up and down the hatch it goes.

Just don't get too caught up in the importance of supplements. Your diet, training routine, and sleep are most important. After that, protein and creatine are the main effective supplements.

cool, thanks. I know how to diet, i've just never taken anything of this sort, but i do see it's importance. when I was on south beach I drank a whey protien shake in the mornings as my snack at work as to not munch on random shit and it helped but that's pretty much all i have exprience with. After reading his book, Berardi kind of SWEARS that you HAVE to have the creatine daily and a recovery drink during/after your work out for best results.

I think i'm goig ot just buy the glutamine and make my own drinks instead of going bananas buying commercial stuff,

Creatine def. helps. The thing I like mostly about it is that it helps retain muscle mass while operating on a caloric deficit.

You've got the right idea though. Just make your own shakes... it's cheaper and it lasts longer.

I wouldnt recommend Creatine to PE if shes looking to lose...all you need is a good diet and forget all of those expensive supplements - most are a waste of money.

Gatorade with whey mixed in is a good PWO shake. I personally prefer fruit punch gatorade mixed with chocolate whey.

    2 Scoops Whey in water + 1tsp (about 8-10g) of BCAA's
    3 Slices of white bread.

Sometimes I do a 20oz Gatorade with 2 scoops of Whey and BCAAs instead of eating the bread, but I prefer the bread.

it's not just for me. Tigretek is doing it too and since i prepare pretty much 90% of his food i need to know this.

Also, I've spokento several women that have had great results building muscle to burn fat and they also say that this will help
