Looking for an external HD to use with my MBP. Needs to be at least 500g and have firewire 800. I was looking at some WD MyBook's but wasnt sure about their reliability...

I love my MyBook... mine is the non-firewire though, but it has been working fine for almost 2 years...

I love my OWC Mercury Elite Pro. Sure it was over $100, but I can always get a better drive. I had an extra SATA drive sitting around and decided to put it to good use.

Oh and btw, FW800 is FAST.

Another vote for the MyBooks, i've got just the USB 250 at the moment, but looking to get a firewire 500 to use for video storage so i can use the usb for timemachine in the future. Amazing little drives.

I can't get more than 2 megs a second out of my extreme even wired. Reviews on the web ding it for that too. I leave a thumb drive plugged into it and I install the idisk client on my windows machine. This way I can quickly shuffle stuff between mac and pc.

Are you using Wireless G instead of N? According to yardsale, that might be the bottleneck.
