so this weekend ill be formatting my hard drive, reinstalling windows. my computer has needed this for a while. how can backup my itunes so that i can easily port over my songs WITH ALL TAGS movies etc. every thing in tunes.

i have 25 gigs of stuff, a 60 gig video ipod

should i just consolidate my library and update my ipod and when i reinstall itunes on my newly wipped clean computer just tell it to make the ipod's list be the music library.

the only thing im worried about is.
-can i make my ipod's music become the library on comp
    -will the tags be preserved
-what about the "authorized computer" stuff with itunes?

    thanks for any help

I don't think you can copy from your ipod to your computer...

Maybe uninstall itunes and whatever is remaining, backup. Reinstall iTunes after the reformat and copy the files over the new installation?

You'll want to backup the iTunes folder in the My Music folder. That contains all of your music and info for iTunes. You can simply copy it back after you re-install iTunes after the format.

If you don't want to do that, look for a program called Sharepod. It's a simple .exe file you copy to the root of your Ipod. From that program you'll be able to copy all of your music from the Ipod to the PC and it will create a .xml file you can import into iTunes to get your library back.

Sharepod will be the way unless you have a spare drive to back up your music to.
