I bought a Rebel XT from Best Buy along w/ the extended service plan which expires in about a year.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to discuss this here , so mods delete this if so.

I'd like to use the service plan to get them to replace my camera with a Rebel XTi. I know in Florida, the lemon law (or something - maybe it's just best buys policy) that after 3 issues or something, they have to replace it?

Any advice on what to say or do?

Well here is how you do it..

Within in a year, you need to have had it serviced 3 times to qualify for lemon law.

Something has to be wrong with it. I would go with the picture is getting to much noise in it or something, at higher ISO's when it used to be pretty clear? Be technical about you're terms you use. Don't try breaking it yourself they will know this.

You could say that in some of you're photo's you are starting to get some streaking, and it's not often but it happens.

IF you had bought the accidental breakage plan... drop that bitch on the ground, and go get a new one.

I like the BBUY warranties, I have them on everything I buy there, and in all cases it has worked out well. Sometimes it goes to service, and sometime it gets repaired. What I like the most is when they replace it , they give you full dollar amount of what you bought that item for. So if you spend 1,000 on that camera, you get 1,000 in store credit.

I know for a fact this is how it works, I was employed there for 2 years before I got canned.

Just kidding, it's a 4 yr service plan. Leaving me with 2 and a half years.

I'm gonna take it in today.

What should I start with? Will the camera ever leave the store? Do they have a "specialist/technician" there that will try to fix/diagnose it?.

Will they want proof (pictures of said streaking/noise?)

It's def. a service plan, and I even if it was the other plan, I still don't think I'd be able to bring my self to drop it :big grin:.

I paid $999 for it. an XTi would be great even if it sells for a bit less ... Orrrrr, woudl they let me pay the difference for say, a 30D ?

I just don't wanna go in there looking like I'm going to scam them.

I've never had it cleaned (by them) so I'm guessing this will be the first thing they want to do. Then i come back? and say somethign else?.... and then one more time? and then they will be like, here is a new one? Or will i have to play the lemon law card at that point and argue my way to a new camera?

Thanks for all your help man!

Its going to be a uphill battle. They try to avoid replacing it, even though it may be a legit claim.

I went to the one in Waterford with my old digital camera... Took it in after I dropped it in a cup of beer over spring break. They didn't even check it out or anything. Since they didn't carry the model anymore, they just gave me the newest version for free. I dunno if they still carry the XT or not, so that might be something to check into. :dunno:
