I often see students in the army walking around campus or in lecture wearing their BDUs. Why would they do this? Is this required by the army?

certain ROTC classes require you to wear a certain uniform on a given day. meaning you have to wear it all day regardless of what classes you have before/after the ROTC class.

    1. They are taking class during duty hours.
    2. Their class schedule falls right after duty hours and does not allow them time to change into civilian clothes.
    3. They are currently in the field and only being released to attend their college course

I would say most of the people who are wearing BDUs at my school are there for their lunch break... they are taking classes during the work day. Stop whining about it and worry about your own-self.

seriously, so many people whine and bitch about this shit.

it's just a fucking uniform. it's nothing more than threads and medal. who seriously cares?

Why not wear a dress uniform? Why do they have to prance around in a combat uniform? They're not on a military installation. They're basically civilians...the army does this to promote recruitment & that's the bottom line.

i can't believe i confused medal with metal

anyways, all i'm saying is that it's fucking stupid for people to get so worked up about this. write the army and tell them to change the policy. all these people are doing is abiding by AR 670-1.

one of my soldiers will be going to class while we're on FTXs and anyone who feels he should be in class A's for his classes can get fucked.

My suggestion, ask the person in ACU's. (If you see students in ACU's, I have no idea why they would still be wearing them.) Most will tell you. I know Soldiers, like most people, love to talk about themselves.

Also, it is not a Recruiting Tool. Many of these Soldiers are required to get written permission from their Commander before they can wear their uniform off post. If it were a Recruiting Tool, most would be required to wear the ACU's off post.

like i said earlier, certain classes require you to wear certain uniforms (if they are in ROTC). some days the dress for class is dress, others its BDU/ABU's.
it has nothing to do with "recruitment" as it does trying to teach the cadets how to properly wear and maintain a uniform.

I'm in Army ROTC and we have to wear the ACU's on days we have military science class. They told us it is partly a recruiting tool and it has helped recruit people into the program here. It was cool walking around in them when I first got them, but now it's nothing. Sometimes I feel akward in them because I'm only in ROTC, but some people don't know what ROTC is and ask me if I've been to Iraq and I have to explain what I'm in.

Dot. ROTC cadets are required to wear them on campus when they conduct leadership labs, training, etc. And if anyone is acting high and mighty, it must just be on your campus. Usually the prior-service guys like to act high and mighty when they see cadets in the uniform they were told to be in. Unless they're seriously jacked up, who cares?
