Realization on not eating enough calories

    Is it fine to eat "dirty" to get the extra calories needed throughout the day? Options are limited in college... :noes:

    Im not looking to get flamed, and i realized im not a noob, im just curious.

    chances are, the ones that are gonna flame you are the nutrition experts who are either 20+% bf or still weigh 140lbs.

    In for the answer - when I was bulking last spring/summer I'd eat clean to get my protein and shit early, but would add a bit of fast food for calories, but I don't know that I did it right

    Add 1 or 2 calorie dense snacks and you're set, it's not that hard. Examples :
    - Peanut butter and banana sammich on WW bread
    - Protein shake with PB (or some kind of oil) and oats in it
    - Handful of nuts and jerky

    But the only important thing is to try something and see the results. Some people can do it, most cannot.

    Im talking in regards to say cheese pizza (homemade), m&ms, mac n cheese (no butter) ....stuff like that....

    Articles would be great

    There is no article needed. Scientific papers will tell you about stuff that works in general and the notion of "clean food" is really vague. The only thing you can do is to try to find your limits. A friend of mine eats whatever the fuck he wants and still have abs showing. I can think about the food he eats and gain fat.

    i'm not usually this bad -- but i was not in the mood to make any food @ home. :o

    I still have another 4 hours before bed, so I'll probably get in another 50g of protein and another 1000-1200 cals.

    You don't count the carbs in powerade ? Maybe powerade is just electrolyte, I never drank that so I don't know.
    There's also a problem in there. You should have an apple cut in pieces into your oats when cooking and cinnamon sprinkled over it.

    i do, but i usually have my shake in water - more often than not, so i didnt wanna count it.. its not like i'm cutting anyway, so missing a few calories in there isnt gonna hurt me.

    Dirty foods typically means refined carbs & saturated fats (grease & sugar). The worse of the two is by far the refined carbs. Take a look at some of the scholarly articles on that...

    since I started to eat dirty, I've noticed an increase in fat. I very rarely calorie count, so it could just be I was eating a bit more or it's true that dirty eating will make you fatter. You look good now, don't add any unnecessary weight

    Sometimes the line is hard to tell but I agree with you. I think that there's a certain notion of nutrient density in there which makes it easier to spot "clean" food. The biggest difference is that it's easier to overeat crappy food though. I could eat a whole pizza and I'd get fat but it's harder to overeat so-called clean food because they get boring and they usually have too much water (I'm thinking about veggies mainly, but oats comes to mind to).

    i'ma be a bloated big tomorrow.. :coold:

    (3894 cals total for today)

    edit: since this post (10 minutes ago) i have had another 27g of protein and 68g of carbs.. :gome:
