Looks like Copes Dist got some mag dies so expect a fresh supply of US mags. I assume they will cost a bit more but they will be new and there should be a steady supply. I'm guessing more tooling will be brought into the US for AKs and the like as import restrictions get stronger. Maybe sometime in the near future someone will be manufacturing 100% US AKs :dunno:

i'm surprised that no company has started up a factory for AKs in the US sooner.

I doubt its cost effective yet. Less than a year ago Romanian kits were still $100, mags were $6 or $7. Tooling up for all that stuff is expensive. Once there's no more surplus, I'm sure someone will step up and start pumping 'em out.

Yeah but its funny because every other country in the world makes AK's because they're cheap.

Still these restrictions should have been seen coming from a mile away and all these kits were bound to dry up eventually. Plus 74 mags are so expensive I'm surprised noone here bothered to start making them since the price basically doubled in the past year. Either way supplies are short now and hopefully some US manufacturers catch on and we can reap the benefits. It wouldn't be that hard to make Russian quality AKs here for the cost of the nice Chinese ones or even cheaper.

Well Promag is making 5.45 mags. They haven't been getting the greatest reviews but their 47 mags (probably 3rd or 4th gen) are finally running well. Maybe after a revision or two their 74 mags will be good to go.

74 mags were $5 or less for the better part of this decade, even if someone was going to make a copy of military 74 mags, you could bet they would be going for $40-50+ each. Magpul is selling their molded Pmags for ~$15 and they have a huge customer base. 74 mags are metal lined and there is a significantly smaller number of people with AK-74s. Most of whom already have at at least few surplus mags.

K-Var makes a nice 45 round 74 magazine. They were 69 dollars when I got one now they are 80. Good quality just pricey.

    $69 for a 74 magazine? :ugh2:

Expensive mags are for rare guns/rare rounds, not AK shit.

These are only 47 dies :wtc:. Hopefully someone will import some Polish or Romanian 74 dies soon though.

    :x:

Although I've heard favorable reviews recently of the newest Tapco stuff. I'm leary of the plastic tab, but I may give a couple of them a try.

Fucking Magpul won't make an AK mag.

I would LOVE to see how those dies work. Shit looks awesome.

Anyone know where Copes is located? For some reason, I was thinking that they might be local (ky)?

Hmmm.. I'm up there quite a bit. Might have to drop by.

Wonder how much a setup like that is worth? And who would you contact to get one?

    Out :o

The Tapco mags seem pretty tough. If you do end up breaking one they will send you a new one too, so I'd say that's a pretty good deal.

Call Russia, but I bet they are expensive.

Likely. I'd love to be in a position to be able to scout out stuff like that though. With so many countries using AK pattern guns (and some getting away from them) I bet there is all kinds of cool "finds" like that for people in the know.

Yeah. I assume the easiest way is to take a trip over there unless you have the hook-ups.

You dont need hookups in Eastern Europe...you just need to flip a low level swindler some cash and just move up the chain until you get what you need. At least thats how I got my Cosmonaut helmet :o
