Just heard that Berkley is putting a lot of their courses online for anyone to watch. MIT did this a year or more ago....I think.

Anyways, they both use Real Player. I stopped installing that on computers years ago because it's just annoying. Constantly interrupting me to upgrade or purchase the full version or w/e. Life has been decent ever since I un-installed it.

This coursework might entice me to reinstall it but before I do, thought I'd check with you guys. Anyone still use the free version?

Depends on what version of real player you have.
The one I have which isn't the latest, is pretty decent... for simple audio/video. Lags, but does the job either way.

But for online courses and it's work load, MPC is definitely a better choice.
    More features and user control.

Just in case there's any confusion here, we should probably point out that MPC will play real player files.

MIT has been doing this for several years now (since 2001 it seems). I looked through some of their assembly and proc architecture courses back when they went live, but never really got all the way through. Very cool stuff.

I use the Real Alternative codec with WMP11 but it only plays .rm's, doesn't stream... good enough for me though, Real sucks

I remember the MIT lecture where after the class was over the prof started talking about his laptop that someone had stolen with a bunch of government data he was researching on it
