ive always been under the assumption that muscle weighs more than fat, perhaps this is an invalid statement, which in that case that ends the discussion right there...

but if it does, why is it that without fail, whenever i know two people who seem to be of the same volume/size/thickness/whatever, the guy made of fat always weighs more than the guy made of muscle? am i missing something here?

That is a dumb question. Who cares?

Anyway, the first result from a google search answers your question: http://www.onemorebite-weightloss.com/muscle-to-fat.html

Although the person who wrote that article is an idiot, the picture clearly answers your question. Of course 5lbs of fat is going to weigh the same as 5lbs of muscle, I don't understand how the author could be that dumb. But the fact it takes a larger quantity of fat to equal the weight of muscle.

I don't know the answer to your question, but it seems like your generalizing a bit. :dunno:

I was actually gonna create a thread asking by how much does muscle weigh more than fat.
People always say muscle weighs more than fat, and I believe that is true, but by "how much"?
Anybody here know an approximate ratio?

Sorry btw if this is already mentioned in the stickies, but this crossed my mind yesterday :hs:

Just a matter of preception, a lean muscular person seems much larger than his his fat counter part. Therefore when visually comparing two individuals who seem to be the same size/mass the fat ass will actually weigh more.

For example I "look" bigger at 180lbs than I do at 210lbs (this is no joke). Being muscular with more defenition and less body fat make you look larger than you are soft.

Most people who guess my weight believe I am 25+ lbs heavier than I actually am.
