So I'm upgrading my stereo equipment after 7 years. I've been researching for a couple weeks and this weekend I've made 2 out of 3 of the purchases I've planned.

    - Onkyo SKS-HT240 6.1 speaker system - $289 from J&R
    - Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver - $389.99 price matched at Circuit CIty

Next on my list is the Samsung LNT4065F LCD.

How does my system stack up as a mid priced set up and is there anything better I could have gotten for the same amount I've spent so far?

$289 for 7 speakers would be actually a low-priced setup. Are you sure that surround sound is that much of a priority for you to sacrifice sound quality? You're ratio of spending more on your receiver than you did for all 7 speakers is a little illogical.

This is really my price limit for speakers home speakers for now. Just wondering if there was anything better for the same money I've spent.

The sub in the SKS-HT240 is good for what it is, but it may be a little weak for my taste since it's only an 8" and I'm used to listening to a 12" in my car.

If it's just starting it will do just fine. If you have nothing right now it will be leaps and bounds over tv speakers. But for that receiver you should look to upgrade those speakers as soon as possible.
