Just an FYI, I don't plan on playing any of the new games that will rape my shit, so I'm not too worried about playability for FEAR, Farcry, Crysis, or any of that.
    Now, to the build:

Generic case (not sure of product number)w/475w power supply
    3 80mm fans blowing ~36cfm each (2 intake 1 exhaust)
    ECS SiS671T-M mobo
    Intel Core 2 Duo E2180 2.0ghz (@ 2.67ghz now, soon to 3.0ghz)
    4gb Crucial PC2 5300 RAM (DDR2 667)
    MSI GeForce 8600GTS OC 256mb GDDR3
    LG Super-Multi Lightscribe DVD-RW/+RW
500gb Seagate 7200rpm (250x2; XP on 1, Vista on the other)
120gb Western Digital 5400rpm (for music, picture, DVD files for "backups")
Samsung 226bw 22" Widescreen lcd monitor
    External Sound Blaster sound card
    Logitech Wireless keyboard/mouse
    Logitech X-530 speaker system 5.1

What do you guys think? It is a budget build for a mid-to-low level gamer.

i got that monitor... tis beautiful
looks alright i guess, but why so much ram for a low-mid level box? 2gig is all you'll need.

Id only buy 2GB and put that left over money towards a 8800GT.

get a good power supply (seasonic, pc power & cooling, ocz, coolermaster), stick with 2gb of ram, unless you're running a 64bit OS, it's useless and get a good motherboard, ECS and their SiS chipset based boards are the shittiest of the shitty. Stick with something from Asus, GigaByte or Intel that uses the P35 chipset. Also, ditch the 8600GTS and get an 8800GT with the saved money from the ram.

And if this is a build thread starter is doing, re: hasn't been purchased yet, I would find a different motherboard.

thanks guys. Build is already complete. I'm thinking that I will sell my old 6600 as well as the other 2gb stick and get a different mobo. Do I really need an 8800? I'm not doing massive gaming, and I don't really see any good reason to switch to the 8800 for more money.

how is the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L ATX Intel Motherboard? I'm looking at that and it is $90 from Newegg. Is that a good board? Anyone have it?

Its much better than an ECS.

And please, pleeease get a decent power supply, especially if you plan on overclocking at all. Take a look at the brand names above (Probably OCZ or Coolermaster if you are on a budget). You do not want to risk the parts on your system with a shitty power supply.

PSU is a Codegen. I'm not sure if that is okay, but if not, I'll have to look at upgrading that as well.

Shitty Mobo, change it asap to avoid taking the whole system out.
Shitty 120gb drive, replace it for optimum performance.

Thanks for the input. Mobo being replaced by a GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L; PSU will soon be a 430w Cooler Master; and I don't really care about sound much, so soundcard and speakers don't matter. As for the 120gb drive, it has absolutely no purpose but to rip-and-burn DVD files and store music/photos. 500gb holds all the important stuff.

Pulled the trigger yesterday. Hopefully it will meet my expectations.

I'm sticking with the 8600GTS until I start playing a game that will require the 8800GT. I'll have to take a look at those AMD cards to see how they test.

    Thanks for input
