While visiting the very dusty house of my SO's father, I was given two firearms for free. They seem to be in pretty good condition, but haven't been used in quite some time. We also got an old .38 sp that is in pretty bad shape.

I don't have pics right now, but here's some info off of their barrels:

    Winchester Model 74
    22 LR #171020A
-This thing takes rounds into the stock of the gun and feeds them to the receiver with a rod & spring arrangement. I've never seen anything like that before.

    J.C. Higgins Model 58316
    Sears Roebuck & Co.
    Proof Tested 12GA-MOD
    2 3/4 chamber
-This thing is a bolt operated 12 GA. I've DEFINITELY never seen anything like it before. A bolt-action shotgun?!? :eek3:

Those shotguns were something like $25 in the Sears catalog back in the late 40s; I wish we could still buy guns from Sears :o

Damn... looks like there's a recall on the shotgun. Guess that will be a wall-mount.

Marlin made a goose gun that was a bolt with an ungodly 36" barrel. Savage still makes a bolt slug gun as does Tar-Hunt (kind what they're known for) and Browning had the A-Bolt slug gun that go for a lot nowadays.

Turns out the recall is just for a bolt stop screw failure when cycling, not firing. I'm gonna have this thing fixed up by a smith and use it.

I know the one he has... has a LONG barrel. He just calls it his goose gun, it has a detachable mag.

Never seen a bolt action shotty or a stock fed rifle? I'm guessing your a young 20 something? ;-)

Free firearms are always good, but I'd definitely recomend getting it safety checked by a smith before firing a round. Time is not always nice to metals. I'm going to guess and say the .38 is a break away????

Get one (or more) of these for it:
    http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/GNS120-44767-1172.html

Got one for my father this Christmas for use with his Remington Fieldmaster. Reloads take about 5 seconds once you remove the spring rod (instead of closer to one minute).

the hardest part about loading a stock fed .22 is making sure you don't put a round in backwards :o
