I have a dell inspiron 8600 laptop and I wanted to upgrade the ram a little. Its currently got 2 256mb sticks of ram installed (only two slots). Can I remove one of stick 256 mb sticks and replace it with a 512, or do I need two 512 sticks?

you pcan just replace one stick but you might want to get two. Either 2x512 or 2x 1GB.

It would run better with a matched set of 512's in there, than a newer 512 and the older 256.

Better to do some googling for a great deal on the 512x2.
