I might be getting a MacBook soon and just have a few question.s I know Apple charges way too much for their RAM upgrades. So I'm just going to get it with the stock 1GB and upgrade it to 2GB myself. But the HDD is another story. The standard HDD is 120GB. I would like a little more storage and maybe a faster one.

    1. Should I go ahead and pay Apple to put the better one in or should I do it myself?

    2. Secondly, let's say I do it myself and I purchase AppleCare. If the HDD that I install dies, will Apple cover it?

I Don't think they'll cover the drive you install, but keep the stock drive inside and external enclosure, that way you can still use it as a time machine back. if it fails complain to apple and they might give you a new one.
