This weekend I participated in an SCCA rally event in which people from as far as North Carolina drove down to compete in. There is no adrenaline rush in the world like rally racing going 70mph offroad in heavy rain with zero visibility on a combination of gravel, dirt, sand, and mud and then left foot braking around a sweeping corner until you reach a hairpin turn where you pull the handbreak and flick the wheel to swing your rear end around the corner and then accelerating hard while struggling to just go in a straight line with ZERO traction. Autocross, drag racing, drifting, offroading, and anything else you can do with a car simply can't even compare to what you experience during a rally. All the shit you see in movies and want to try on the street but know you really shouldn't, I got to do... it was awesome . I felt like Petter Solberg out there.

(yes... that is a mustang and a S2000, and needless to say they both couldn't even complete the stages)

There was one guy in a brand new yellow Evo and he was trying to show off and lost control and went through a metal fence totally ****ing up his car, he hadn't even made 1 payment on the car yet . Sucks for him.

I can't even begin to explain how much fun I had.

I've done 3 seasons of SCCA rally-x with my 2000 Impreza 2.5RS, great fun. What kind of surface was that you where on? All that tape seems like overkill to me. I never put any tape on mine, and I never did anything that wouldn't buff right out. Mostly grass and dirt/mud, but occasional gravel.

This surface was almost all gravel, sand, and just nasty gritty stuff. If it was held on grass or something I definitely wouldn't have put all the tape on.

    Have fun cleanin' her up!

I still don't understand the point of that ugly extra spoiler looking thing at the top of the back glass though.

That's the rear roof vane, it takes air traveling over the body and deflects it PERFECTLY into the path of the rear wing for maximum effectiveness. In 2005 (no roof vane) the rear wing produced something like 65 pounds of downforce at 75mph, but in 2006 the rear wing now produces nearly 90 pounds of downforce at the same speed because of the roof vane. Having a car designed in a windtunnel ftw.

I knew it had to have some use, but it really looks like an afterthought. I guess since it wasn't there last year, it is an afterthought.

there are scca rallies going on all over the country, and all 12 months of the year (they do it in snow up here). there are probably alot of venues in florida. If you become and SCCA member, youll get a subscription to sportscar magazine, which gives alot of info about the racing going on in your region.

The field doesn't look like much, however it is ALL gravel, rocks, and mud.
