Will a 9" rail fit or is that too long?

You need a carbine length rail for the FSB to fit.

Yeah that looks about what I want. I haven't figured out my optic yet, so I'm not sure if I need picatinny on top, but I do want to use a stubby vertical grip.

yeah, eventually. i'll run irons for a while though i'm sure. as for the optic i'm just kind of assuming aimpoint (M3, M4, T1) i'd like to see all the options in person before i buy though.

for the front and rear? i'm a little hesitant to buy plastic sites... yet again never handled them, so i have no idea what the quality is like.

Personal preference but I really like having "back-up" iron sights that don't co-witness unless I want them to. The MBUS is alright for a set of cheap sights but after having played with the Troy units, I'd take them over the MBUS or YHM offerings any time.
