I have a stripe set 800JBx2 on my KR7A-RAID mobo and I'm upgrading to a P4800 mobo with raid.

Can I just reconnect the drives and everything will be ok?

Or is the array setup so that it will only work on that specific setup?

I don't believe you'll be able to do this, if these drives contain your OS you shouldn't do this to start as going from one mobo to a new one with all the old registry info for the hardware doesn't work out well most of the times.

Secondly I believe once you install the drives on the new board you'll be forced to initialize the drives into a new raid as diff mobo=diff raid bios.

Best I can suggest is try it and see what happens, just have a backup of any important data.

Your stripeset will only work with that raid controller on the mobo. The metadata on those disks will only work with the same type controller. So, if the p4800 has the same raid controller and firmware as teh 800jbx2, it is a possibility.

But, in my experience, I haven't had much luck moving raid sets around physically from my sun E boxes. I just had to rebuild and restore, or mirror and move.
