It really boils down to the Valentine One and the Escort Passport 8500 X50. Can't go wrong with either. Check out radartest.com and radarbusters.com for more info. I have the Passport and it's saved my ass numerous times.

    another vote for teh V1.

My wife used to have a Passport and I have a V1. I got out of the habit of using a radar detector for a while, so she borrowed my V1. When I told her I wanted it back several months later, she made me buy her a V1 of her own and gave the Passport to her dad...who has also recently purchased a V1 of his own and has handed the Passport off to his son, who works at Best Buy so he probably thinks it's the best thing ever.

Go with the V1. You won't regret it and you won't have to throw it away and start over every time the coppers start using some new radar type device. Last time I sent mine in to be upgraded (~$60 IIRC), I got an entirely new unit because they had made the cases a bit smaller. In addiiton to an entirely new V1, they also sent me a new power adapter and mounting clip...and I had the latest and greatest version in place of the out of date version I had sent them, all for a measly $60.

I have the Beltronics RX65 and it is the best one i have ever had. I have used the V1 but it didn't really do any better then the beltronics except for say in what direction it was coming from.

I was skeptical of getting a beltronics one but that was until i heard that escort bought them. So in a sense is just a reskinned escort 8500 but when i bought mine it had a few extra features and also had the a new band (which i am lacking in remember what it is) that the escort did not yet support. Also, i'm not sure how to go about doing it, but i was told it can be reflashed in the future to use newer bands that come about. IMHO it is the best for the money.

I love my V1, it payed for itself the first week I had it on a road trip from TX back to OR. The directional arrows are very nice to tell what's going on.

Have any of you guys hard wired your V1? If so please post pics and tips. I would like to get a V1 but it is so "bulky" and I would hate to have that 12V cord running down the center console.

I've had the Escort X50 and the previous Escort for over 3 years now. I've never had a problem with either one. It's a great product. Whenever I sell my car though, I sell the radar with it. So the last time I wanted to purchase the V1, but couldn't justify the price difference because I work at Best Buy and get the Escort for $150. But if you're considering it at regular price, I would probably try the V1. If you want to save some money, go w/ the Escort, it's still a great product.
