So, thanks in great part to the help of joshts0, my friends poorly taken care of R1 got an oil change, chain cleaned/tightend/lubed.

I've come to like the R1, and might consider picking up a leftover 07 come May.

But, i've noticed that the gearbox on the R1 is extremely notchy. It takes a considerable effort to shift gears, sometimes even to downshift. Is this normal? I'm inclined to think that the severe slack in the chain has done some sort of damage to the gearbox, but i'm not entirely convinced. In comparison to my F4, the F4's gearbox is buttery smooth, effortless and thoughtless.

    Thoughts?

yeah, oil really matters a lot. I HATED the way the ex250 shifted running diesel oil...

well, my friend who had it hadn't changed the oil in 3k miles (since he got it) So, at 3,2XX i changed the oil for the first time and went with yamalub (not my money) reguler dino oil...

edit: it was notchy both pre and post oil change. I really thought the oil change would have done more for it...
