Rico Chiapparelli is the head trainer, and Frank Trigg is part owner as well (not sure how often he is around though)

they've got a huge wrestling mat area, a full sized ring, and enough weights to get the job done, including an olympic lifting area.

I haven't seen a ton of reviews about it, and didn't see much on the sherdog forums.

anyone hear of it/experience with it?

I checked out the place ... I was wondering if anyone had feedback on the trainers (Rico specifically) and if they had heard anything about the gym in general before I threw down for a 6 month membership

    :dunno:

place is nice but will never be the breeding ground for world class competition. el segundo is a city full of yuppie scum who do not come from the impoverished fight for ur life upbringing that is needed to become a decent mma fighter.

I could probably quote you a bunch of fighters who had comfortable livings or at least normal livings before becoming some of the most successful fighters in their respective sports.

Having a tough upbringing only makes you slightly more mentally tough. However with sufficient training anyone can gain that mental toughness

:werd: most top notch wrestlers don't have such tough upbringings (i'm sure there are exceptions) but their training instills the competition attitude and mentality which is needed to excel in a sport. Sport being the key word here, MMA is less and less about fighters as it is about athletes. Sure a guy from a tough upbringing will be rugged but anybody coming from a competitive background like wrestling will succeed more in this sport.

BJ Penn is the only one, and he's where he's at because of natural talent and a bottomless pit of money to spend on training, other than that he's a crybaby bitch who gives up whenever the going gets tough. This has been the case in every fight in which he lost.

Other than that, Fedor, Noguiera, Lesnar, Hughes, GSP, Anderson Silva, Shogun, Rashad, Huerta, Diego Sanchez, Cung Le, Diaz brothers, Bisping, Henderson, Torres, Mir...Seriously the list just goes on and on..All of them have this warrior mentality instilled in them because of the environment they were brought up in.

Slightly more mentally tough my ass.

BJ is the perfect example of that bullshit. The guy either wins in spectacular fashion because he's fighting guys that are levels below him in talent, but then when he gets somebody that's equally as skilled, or better, he just gives up, and comes up with excuse after excuse for his loss. FAT LAZY HAWAIIAN PUSSY!!

I ended up signing up for 1 month at Hermosa Boxing Works, a muay thai specialty place ... it's super close to me and has month to month memberships (and a full gym)
