Quote of the Day: Fedor Emelianenko's Trainer Admits He Undertrained

[IMG] by Kid Nate on Jan 26, 2009 2:56 PM EST in Events

"He's obviously got unbelievable potential, but he had some distractions getting ready for this fight. The movie. The commercials. If Fedor wants to keep winning, and winning well, he needs to train professionally. Right now he won with his old tricks.
"The fact that Fedor won, don't get me wrong, I'm very happy about. But he won this fight because of the training before this fight. The experience he had before this fight. The trainers did everything we could to get him ready. But for title fights, we can't train the way we trained for this one."

    he never said that

he said that it was because of his prior experience and training that he won and not because of the preparations for this particular fight

Scary to think what would have happened to AA had Fedor been fully prepared.

How is barnett supposed to beat Fedor when he is just going to duck him?

Scary how? The fight was so short that the effect of udertraining didn't even show itself.

And AA is still faster than Fedor on his best day, so it's not like much of the fight would have been any different.

What you call ducking I call being smart. They are personal friends and if they are going to fight, they want to milk it for every penny it's worth, so they will be asking for tons of money. If the fight doesnt get signed because they're playing hardball, people will say barnett is ducking fedor, but I personally disagree. It's a business. Hopefully they'll break like the hatton/paquiao deal.

If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, it's Josh Barnett being questioned about fighting Fedor.

I think it did. Not taking anything away from AA but I don't think Fedor looked frustrated. He ate a couple good shots, blocked kicks oddly, and ate that push kick at the end.

Its not really an excuse when you win the fight. :dunno:

Its pretty obvious to anyone that Fedor came in soft as hell, did it really look like he trained his ass off?

He wasn't really getting the best of the exchanges out there that's for sure. I think the way he was blocking those kicks was actually setting AA up for something. I've never seen Fedor drop his head down there before, fuck Crocop back then would have decapitated him if he saw that. I don't agree with getting "caught" with a teep. They are pretty damn unavoidable when you're within striking distance with a kick, but outside of a punch. There are ways to avoid them, but fuck even guys who have been doing MT for longer than I've been alive still take them.

When has fedor not looked "soft" coming into a fight? It wasn't a great performance, even though he ended up winning. But it's hard to come out and say that he didn't train properly less than a week after "the baddest man on the planet" 1 hour special about how fedor eats and sleeps fighting and specifically commenting about how "focused" he is at all times. To then come out and say that he was "distracted" by all the outside elements, doesn't hold water IMO.

So you're going to believe what you see from what a show documents than a first-hand comment from his trainer? k
