I figured I'd post this to remind myself and show others that are thinking of quitting what it's like. I've been smoking for over 12 years, I started at 12 and am 24 now. I am a pack a day smoker, and smoked menthols. I'm quitting completely. This means no cheating, no Zyban, no patch- nothing.

    ════════════════════════════════════════

Day 1: I stopped midday because I wanted to get a jump on the night. I chewed on gum for a few hours. Last night after dinner I had an after meal craving, and it took a bit of willpower to get past it. It only lasted about 30 minutes before I got distracted by TV.

    ════════════════════════════════════════

Day 2: I woke up this morning and when I walked outside the spring air was niiiiice. I didn't want to hop into the car to go to work. I was VERY tempted to call out sick just so I could chill outside.

My morning cup of coffee was eleventy times better. the taste is the same, but it's much stronger. The bad cravings haven't hit yet I think. I know I'm going to gain weight, I'm hungry as hell. My allergies are still here, so my throat isn't much clearer.

I quit cold turkey a month ago...One day at a time is the only way to take it. Try replacing the nicotine with mountain dew. :bigthumb:

pro street - whenever you get the urge and it seems unbearable - remember that it'll pass. just wait it out. if not one day at a time, take it an hour at a time. if thats too hard, just take it 5 minutes at a time. just say 'for the next 5 minutes i won't smoke a cig.' rinse & repeat.

the hardest parts are when I'm commuting- 5 hours in a car is a long time.

I'm waiting until Ihave my final surgery- that will give me 3 days where I won't have the urge (I noticed this after my surgery in April)

Plus I'll be at the meat sorrounded by non-smokers.
