Quicktime codecs

    Some .avi files I try to play say I need a codec for them. Sound won't work on some and works on some others

    I have divx but that's apparantly not it :dunno:

    any ideas?

    You should get VLC (videolan.org), it's a great media player which will handle just about anything.

    If you need the file to play through quicktime (like for Front Row or appletv), you can use VLC and view the properties of the video to find out exactly what the codec is. Then google for the codec name and "mac os x".

    I think there's some kind of codec mega-pack which is supposed to hook up quicktime with everything you'd ever want, but I can't remember the name of it... maybe someone else does.

    Perian works well for Quicktime, but it still misses a few of the codecs that I need

    there was one other mega-codec pack that had like 5 or 6 more codecs than Perian, but I can't remember where I got it :o

    I tried Perian and it's still a no go :sad2:
