Looking to build an AR. Going to start with a stripped RRA lower. My question is about going from 5.56 to 9mm. Are the lowers different? Or could I pin a 9mm upper onto a standard lower? :x:

as was said only thing you need to do concerning the lower is slide in the magwell adaptor, just build your lower using standard parts though, if you go with using fancy competition internals you might run into problems just use standard lower parts kit from RRA or Stag or whomever.

You need a 9mm hammer along with a standard trigger assembly.

I think the Colt 9mm uppers require new hammer, but not all of them do, mine works fine on a standard bushy lower.

its an Oly upper, got it on the EE on arfcom. I've heard lots of bad stuff about Oly so was a little hesitent about getting this one, but I was attracted to the fact it uses Sten mags which are dirt cheap as low as 4.99 for used ones and new ones are like $12, I have all used ones and they all along with the upper function great, if you do go the sten mag route, get yourself a loader sten mags have the stiffest damn springs I've ever encountered.

How much are they used? I know every gun show has tons of cheap used Uzi mags, but can't remember how much they were exactly.

like 20+ I think, also even with the magwell adaptor the uzi ones have to be modified a bit not sure exactly what it is you have to do to them, sten mags have little dimples that stick out just enough not to fit in my bushy magwell but no biggie i just dremeled them down a little bit. Other then that no modifications needed.

Initial investment I think the uzi mag setup might be a bit cheaper($40ish), but depending how many mag's you plan on having for it that can change quickly. I think Tapco still has used sten mags for $4.99 there used but in pretty good shape no rust and dont even really look used just chips off the finish on them.

How much is the mag well adaptor for Sten mags? $125 seems kind of expensive for the Uzi mag well setup.

I bought my setup as a complete package, but I think the SOCOM sten adaptor is like $75
