i know you can "roll your own" to do it, but are there any places that sell .410 shells loaded with rock salt?

I've never seen any shells loaded with rock salt being sold. Why would you want that? Most likely it'd just turn to powder when you shot it. Worthless.

it would be even better if you could load a shotshell full of the Herpes Simplex virus.

It actually doesn't turn to powder, at it stings like a bitch. My uncles used to use it scare off animals back in the day.

It would be pretty useless against humans. Just get some of those shells loaded with the rubber balls

I don't. My boss wants a gun to scare dogs away from his house. He also wants a lever gun. I figured a shotgun w/rock salt would do the trick and the only reasonably priced lever action shotgun I've seen is a Marlin .410. Since he isn't into reloading, I thought I'd check and see if they could be bought. And as far as turning to powder, the rock salt would still be loaded into the shot wad and hence would not become powder.

I have always wanted to load shotshells with dimes after seeing "Pat Garret & Billy the Kid".

Really small birdshot would most likely be less than lethal to big dogs.

You know thats an amazingly popular story, but no one seems to actually have any such rounds in their posession. First shooting anyone with anything out of gun you better be justified in using lethal force, and if you are why are you shooting salt. I don't see salt as having enough mass to even sting through clothes really. Maybe I'm wrong. I think its a rural legend personally. I'm sure people have loaded them, but I don't think they would be useful.

he wants them for dogs, not people. he doesn't want to kill the dogs, only make them go away.

just use one of those daisy red ryders, or a pump one w/ minimal pumps and aim for the ass. won't hurt the dog, but it'll make them leave.

I'd just go out there with a bat and chase 'em off. If they're really a nuisance/danger and they're wild dogs, just shoot 'em with a .22.
