Friends computer is giving her an error saying something along the lines of overheating. She called geek squad and they said that she should buy a new computer as it would be more expensive to fix the computer than to buy
    another one.

Anyway, took it apart today and the heatsink that went over a chip on the MB came off.

I was wondering. Do you clean off the old thermal paste with contactcleaner?

you can use contact cleaner, alcohol, goo off (not the same as 'goo gone' which leaves citrus oil), acetone, etc,... as long as it doesn't leave a residue

    wipe with lint free cloth
