im getting a header for my eclipse. quick question though what would be the difference between a 4-2-1- header and a 4-1. i know the main difference is the piping but which one would be better?

4-2-1 gradually unifies the exhaust into one pipe by first bringing cylinders 1 and 2 together, and cylinders 3 and 4 together... then bringing those two unions into one larger pipe- Hence the name 4-2-1. Generally 4-2-1 headers are better, but NA 4 cylinders without more extensive modifications will likely never see a notable performance difference between a 4-1 and 4-2-1.

Now if you built some super-high compression monster with a well ported head, badass valvetrain and huge camshafts and the like, you'd see more of a gain from a 4-2-1 design.
But if that's not in the works, a 4-1 will probably do the job just fine.

4-1 has more high end gains for NA applications (well Honda's atleast)

4-2-1 is more for mid range power.
