This was her first modeling shoot, she'd only done pageantry stuff before.

Not bad for looking a bit awkward in the pic.

No hair light makes it look flat. And your key to fill ratio is too harsh. Cute model, though.

yeah, I had a hard time posing her because of both our inexperience :hs:

thanks for the input, you mean the key is too much? I haven't started playing with hair light yet, do you just point a strobe with like a grid at the top of her head on low power?

I think the 2nd one needed more fill?

The light is ok, but you needed to get closer or crank up the fill so you don't have once side of her face fully lit and the other 4 stops darker. Hair light can be done a number of ways. I prefer just bare flash with just enough power to create a nice little outline of the body or hair; this adds some depth. One a side note, the light seems a bit harsh and her makeup is pretty cakey. Honestly, I would've turn the lights down low and shot nearly wide open so only to catch he eyes and a little bit of hair in focus while letting some of her other features go a bit soft.

I may run those headshots through portraiture on a low setting to try and smooth her skin out a bit.
