If I am traveling into California, are there any laws I should be aware of when carrying a shotgun? Is there a minimum barrel length? Right now it has an 18 1/4", but I could swap in the 28" tonight after work. I'm going camping, and want to have it in the truck with me...

Also, if I go hiking, any problems with carrying the shotty?

I have a mossberg 500 cruiser with I think a 19 inch barrel (might be 18 though) I think you'll be ok its just high cap mags you gotta be carefull about, but unless you do somthig stupid wiht it, it shouldnt be an issue. I doubt a park ranger woult bother to check your barrel legnth.

When it comes to CA you need to call all the local governments/ juristictions and get THEIR official laws before you go taking a weapon in. Asking on a forum is a great way to get incorrect info that could get you arrested.

Considering that they make out of state law enforcement officers unload and lock their pistols in the trunks before crossing the state line should tell you how they feel about firearms transportation.

ok, well I'm just going to leave the 18" on there. I'll have it locked up and unloaded in the back of the truck. We're not going far into Cali, just to Lake Trinity (near Shasta). Hopefully there won't be a need to even pull it out of it's case. I did have to talk one of my idiot friends out of taking his AR also...I'm sure that would've gone over well.

Yeah call up the area where you're going and ask if it's ok.

For a semi auto or handgun it is 10. For a pump there is no limit.
