I'm considering picking up a Dillon 650 before the end of the year however do I need a caliber conversion kit for every caliber I plan to load?

  2. Yes, assuming it's like the 550. The conversion kits include the correct powder funnel, the correct shellplate, and the brass locator buttons that keep the cases aligned properly.

EDIT: Just looked on Dillon's site. Yeah, it's like the 550. You can also look at their stock numbers, if 2 calibers you want have the same stock number, then they use the same conversion kit.

And what about dies? My FIL has Lee and RCBS dies that are currently used in a pair of RCBS Rockchuckers to load 9mm, .45, .223, and .308. The pistol caliber dies are carbide dies while the rifle calibers are not. Should I also buy new dies to go with the press or re-use what we already have?

  4. If the dies are in good shape, there's no point in re-buying them.

Is a second powder measure recommended? We only use two powders.

    XL 650? how much?

and MG, is the 650 what you have? If I do this, I am going to hold off on the suppressor stuff for now. I think this is more important for me so I can start shooting more often

which fucking caliber type for the 550?!? they have like 6 different .223's

  16. I have the 550. For what I do, I think it's great. Caliber conversions take way less time from what I understand, and I'm really anal when I load, so the manual indexing makes it simple for me to pull cases and check various things. The 650 is auto indexing.

  17. Huh? All I see are the .223 Rem and the .223 WSSM.

Most people I know who roll Dillon stuff for both pistol and rifle do the 550B. Easier/cheaper to swap calibers. I see a lot more 650b's used solely for pistol stuff, and the 550B's for rifle stuff (or mixed).

  22. My press is mounted right to my bench, at a perfect height. Rather than run the bullet tray, I just keep the bullets on the bench to the left of the press. They're pretty much right where the tray would put them, but it's free. I could see the tray making it easier if you're using the mount that raises the press up though.

actually shipping wouldn't be bad from them to Ty, and Ty to me, accounting for gas and your fucking Illinois tolls.

is all that shit you put in the other thread, MG, available on Dillon's site?

The strong mount? I was planning to mount it directly to the bench as well. But now phrozen's got me reconsidering the 650 and going the 550 route...
