-when is the best time to take simple carbs? what about complex carbs? (like it's best to have simple carbs in the morning, or something like that)
-out of your total carb intake, about how much of that should be simple carbs?

Complex/simple carbs is not a useful concept as some simple carbs behave like complex carbs should and the other way around too.
A better approach is the glycemic or insulin index but then again, these are really limited and don't really have an effect. The only thing I've seen is that low glycemic index carbs have been linked to a lower LDL level and this was due to fiber content.
You should just worry about how much carbs you're getting and if these are nutrient dense.

Like andrew said..just worry about the carbs proper, don't sweat the GI or complex/simple stuff. It all goes out the door if you mix the carbs with any other food anyways.

Close to a workout I like easy to digest stuff- handful of gummi bears or jelly beans sometimes, maybe a fat-free fig newton.

Just eat food and stop trying to worry about perfect GI index etc...

i would agree with this too depending on how much you currently weigh and what your goals are. however if you do check glycemic levels on what you eat and stuff and eat clean foods and stuff, you will notice a slight difference. IE things such as your body absorbs lots of the "good nutrients" and you poop out like almost nothing, therefore gaining more mass. and after workouts eating high glycemic foods really does make you feel good.

BUT that shit is a bitch to keep track of hardcore so i stopped it :greddy:

Complex carbs good, simple sugars bad and make fat.
